On land there are seas where life is almost impossible. This is the case of the Aral Sea, which is disappearing.
In the late '60s, the Aral Sea, an immense salt lake of the southern former USSR, extended by an area equivalent to twice the territory of Belgium. Today the sea is about to turn into a huge desert.

Where did the water?

in the late 50's it was decided to cultivate cotton in the region occupied by the Aral Sea. Cotton has grid need water now being pumped directly from the sea.
To cap it all, the Aral was no longer able to rely on water from two major rivers that emptied into it, but diverted to irrigate cotton fields. Almost immediately the level fell 14 meters and the area decreased by 40%. At present there are only a few puddles around the old fund. To keep the situation in the Aral Sea will soon have totally disappeared.

The lowering of water levels has led to the tripling of the salinity of the sea.
Once captured in the Aral Sea 45 000 tonnes. fish. Today the fishermen are gone, along with otters and marine birds. In ponds survive only one species of shrimp and a streak mutant inedible.
The boat weighs continue to rot in the sandy, miles from shore.
The climate has become much more dry since the sea began to dry.
